- Immediately report the accident to an employee, manager or owner of the premises where this happened and if possible try and talk to the most senior person available and make sure he or she makes a record including the time, date, location and injury.
- Get the names, addresses and contact details of all witnesses or relevant parties.
- Make a note of the date, time and location as well as relevant conditions which led to the accident (e.g. wet surface).
- If practical, take photographs of the accident location or cause.
- Keep all receipts.
“DON’Ts”
- Don’t admit liability or sign any document.
- Don’t leave the scene of an accident until all information has been exchanged between the parties and the matter is noted by the most senior person available.
- Don’t make a statement or comment without legal advice.
